www.afl.com.auWill McCabe’s latest AFL news is that he was set to make his Hawthorn debut in Round 6 against Port Adelaide on April 19, 2026, after being named in the team on April 15. Hawthorn described him as a 20-year-old first-round pick from the 2023 draft, and said his VFL form had earned him the call-up.[1][2]
What changed
He was added to Hawthorn’s Round 6 side as one of two inclusions, with Calsher Dear also coming in, replacing the injured Mabior Chol and Jack Gunston.[2]
Why it matters
Hawthorn highlighted that McCabe has developed from a key defender into a forward and had recently produced a strong VFL game with four goals and 20 disposals. The club also noted his family link, as he follows his father Luke McCabe, who played 138 games for Hawthorn.[1]

Match coverage and club video posts around April 17 also pointed to his debut being imminent, with one highlight noting he had already scored his first career goal on debut.[8][10]
