The Manx Amateur Drama Federation (MADF) marked its 75th anniversary this year and has announced that the traditional Easter Festival of Plays will take a break in 2026. The organization plans to resume the full event in 2027.
In the meantime, a Festival of One Act Plays will take place at the Erin Arts Centre from March 12 to 14, 2026. The event will feature performances by drama societies from both the Isle of Man and the UK.
“Sue brings more than 40 years of experience in arts education and theatre to this year’s festival.”
Doherty, Head of Performing Arts at St Julie’s High School in Liverpool, has dedicated her career to promoting access to the arts. Many of her former students have trained at prestigious institutions such as RADA, Guildhall, and LIPA, with some achieving success on stage and screen, including BAFTA winner Jodie Comer.
In addition, she has worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company, led City of Culture initiatives, and developed influential verbatim theatre projects addressing social issues.
The Manx Amateur Drama Federation pauses its main Easter festival for 2026 but continues its tradition with a one-act play showcase judged by veteran theatre educator Sue Doherty.
