The National Transport Authority (NTA) has been requested to address ongoing transport problems in Clondalkin following complaints at a community forum.
Residents urged that an NTA representative attend future meetings to discuss the unreliable public transport affecting the area.
Councillor Darragh Adelaide highlighted the severity of the situation, emphasizing how many residents are negatively impacted.
“ The 13 coming through Clondalkin was listed as one of the most cancelled buses in Dublin. These issues affect many people, especially older adults waiting in the cold when the bus is cancelled. The same goes for people with disabilities, parents with young children, and those commuting to work.”
On Wednesday, October 15, the 13 bus was cancelled 21 times, representing a 13% cancellation rate. Most cancellations occurred near the Grange Castle-Mountjoy Square route's starting point.
Councillor Eoin Ó Broin noted instances where the bus skipped the Bawnogue stop, which is undergoing roadworks, to try to regain schedule and avoid penalties from the NTA.
“ What can happen is that the bus skips Bawnogue in order to get back on track because when they’re late, they get fined by the NTA.”
Summary: Persistent cancellations and route changes of bus 13 severely disrupt travel for Clondalkin residents, prompting calls for the NTA's direct involvement in resolving the issue.
