Jasprit Bumrah, the prominent Indian fast bowler, received one demerit point from the International Cricket Council (ICC) for his 'plane' celebration directed at Haris Rauf during the Asia Cup 2025 final against Pakistan.
"Jasprit Bumrah (India) accepted a charge under Article 2.21 for conduct that brings the game into disrepute and the proposed sanction of an official warning, which resulted in one demerit point. As he accepted the sanction, no formal hearing was required," stated the ICC official release.
Haris Rauf faced harsh criticism for using the 'crashing plane' gesture during the Super 4 match between India and Pakistan, which was seen as a reference to the military tensions between the two nations. In the final, after dismissing Rauf in the 18th over, Bumrah mimicked Rauf's gesture to deliver an emphatic send-off.
India's fast bowler Arshdeep Singh underwent a disciplinary hearing led by ICC Match Referee Andy Pycroft concerning an alleged breach of conduct during the Super 4 match against Pakistan. He was ultimately found not guilty.
"Following a hearing conducted by ICC Match Referee Andy Pycroft: Arshdeep Singh (India) was found not guilty of an alleged breach of Article 2."
The ICC penalized Bumrah with a warning and one demerit point for unsporting behavior, while Arshdeep Singh was exonerated of all charges.
Author's note: The disciplinary actions reflect the ICC's ongoing efforts to maintain sportsmanship in high-tension matches between India and Pakistan.
