RSL Victoria is encouraging the community to purchase a red poppy ahead of Remembrance Day on Monday, 11 November 2024. This date marks the anniversary of the Armistice that ended World War I hostilities with Germany in 1918.
Each year, at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, millions gather to remember. Services will be held at 11am in Ararat, Willaura, and Lake Bolac to commemorate the day.
The red poppy, known as the "Flower of Remembrance," was among the first to bloom across the battlefields of northern France and Belgium after the war ended. Australia adopted the poppy in 1921 as a symbol to honour those who died and to support those who live on.
Remembrance Day poppies and badges are currently available for purchase at several locations, including:
