Thailand warmly received over 100 contestants on Sunday as the 74th Miss Universe pageant began in Bangkok, featuring Cambodia’s delegate despite regional tensions. The global event, themed “The Grand Universe: The Power of Love, The Power of Thailand,” marks the fourth time Thailand has hosted the competition.
The pageant’s activities will take place through November 21 across Bangkok, Phuket, and Pattaya, showcasing the country’s tourism and cultural heritage.
Cambodia’s contestant, Thai Neary Socheata, also known as Fiyata, arrived in Bangkok even though her national license holder, ELEVENTO9 Company, had announced Cambodia’s withdrawal citing “unresolved situations between Cambodia and Thailand.” Her independent decision to compete drew attention and online debate in both countries.
“I’ve arrived safely in Thailand. Thank you for the warm welcome, kindness, and support from everyone. Your love truly means so much to me.” — Fiyata
Despite earlier uncertainty, Fiyata received a warm reception from Cambodian supporters at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport.
The Miss Universe 2025 launch in Thailand underscored unity and cultural pride, as Cambodia’s contestant joined despite diplomatic strains between the two nations.
