Kevin Durant was taken aback when he discovered the actual price of his most valuable trading card. The Houston Rockets star initially guessed it might be worth around $112,000, but he was shocked to learn that the record sale reached $780,000.
The card in question is Durant’s 2007–08 Upper Deck Exquisite Collection Rookie Card, sold in 2021. It features his autograph and a swatch of his game-worn jersey from his rookie season with the Seattle SuperSonics.
“I thought it was about $112,000,” Durant said, “but then they told me it was $780,000.”
Given Durant’s illustrious career—two NBA championships, two Finals MVP titles, and one league MVP award—the soaring value of his trading cards comes as no surprise. Now playing his first season with Houston, Durant is averaging 27.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, shooting 52.2% from the field, 36.8% from three-point range, and 84.6% from the free-throw line through four games.
Durant’s reaction to the $780,000 sale of his rookie card highlights his ongoing legacy and strong early performance with the Rockets.
