The Los Angeles Angels have appointed veteran pitching coach Mike Maddux to their staff, marking the first confirmed member of newly hired manager Kurt Suzuki’s staff. The team plans to announce the full coaching staff once it is finalized.
Maddux, 64, previously guided the Texas Rangers to the best team ERA in Major League Baseball in 2025, posting an impressive 3.47 mark. That rotation featured frontline pitchers Jacob deGrom and Nathan Eovaldi. Despite the Rangers offering him a position under new manager Skip Schumaker, Maddux chose to join the Angels instead.
Over his long career, Maddux has served as a pitching coach for four organizations: the Milwaukee Brewers, Texas Rangers, Washington Nationals, and St. Louis Cardinals. He had two stints with the Rangers, including their consecutive World Series appearances under then-manager Ron Washington in 2010 and 2011.

He is also known as the older brother of Hall of Famer Greg Maddux, one of baseball’s most accomplished pitchers.
