During the India tour of Australia in 2025, Jasprit Bumrah ended with figures of 2/26 in four overs, but both wickets came too late to affect the outcome of the match. Former Indian batter Robin Uthappa expressed his view that Bumrah tends to lose his rhythm when he pushes too hard for wickets, a pattern evident in India's loss to Australia in the second T20I at the MCG on October 31.
India struggled with the bat on a lively pitch, getting bowled out for 125 in 18.4 overs, thanks to a sharp bowling performance by Josh Hazlewood and his teammates. The Indian team needed early wickets to remain competitive, but Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head launched an aggressive counterattack. Marsh’s second over went for 18 runs, including four byes, setting the tone for Australia.
Despite Bumrah ultimately taking two wickets, the breakthroughs arrived too late as Australia secured a comfortable four-wicket win with nearly seven overs to spare.
“When we were bowling after scoring 125, the start was very important. If we had picked up two or three wickets in the first three or four overs, the game could have been closer because we have quality spinners in the middle overs. I felt we were probably trying too hard to pick up wickets. So we got a little wayward,” said Uthappa on Star Sports, as reported by The Indian Express.
Uthappa highlighted that trying too hard to take wickets early made Bumrah’s bowling less accurate, which impacted India’s chances in the match.
Author's Summary: Jasprit Bumrah’s struggle to maintain control when pushing for wickets early cost India crucial momentum in their 2025 T20I match against Australia.
