SALT LAKE CITY — Elder Gérald Caussé, originally from France and the former Presiding Bishop of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has been ordained as the newest member of the Church’s Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. The ordination took place on Thursday under the direction of President Dallin H. Oaks, together with members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
The Quorum of the Twelve Apostles serves as the second-highest governing body in the Church. Its members act as special witnesses of Jesus Christ and help lead the administrative and spiritual work of the faith worldwide.
“I’ve always had a testimony of Jesus Christ," Elder Caussé said. "And I know He’s our Savior and Redeemer. What a wonderful thing it is to be a witness of Christ.”
Born in Bordeaux, France, in 1963, Elder Caussé later moved to Paris at the age of 19. He and his wife, Valérie Babin Caussé, are second-generation members of the Church. The couple married in the Bern Switzerland Temple in 1986 and are the parents of five children.
Before his new calling, Elder Caussé served in the Presiding Bishopric beginning in 2012 and earlier as a General Authority Seventy from 2008 to 2012. Over his years of ministry, he has often emphasized compassion, service to others, and the vital role of youth in the Church’s future.
