Antonio Brown, former Central Michigan University standout and NFL player, has been arrested on an attempted murder charge, confirmed by Miami Police.
The charge is linked to a May 16 incident following a celebrity boxing event in Miami, where shots were fired. Brown was initially detained briefly at the scene.
Brown stated on social media at the time: "I was jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me."
He added, "Police temporarily detained me until they received my side of the story and then released me. I WENT HOME THAT NIGHT AND WAS NOT ARRESTED."
According to a June report by the AP, Brown was named in an arrest warrant accusing him of seizing a handgun from a security staff member and firing two shots at a man involved earlier in a fistfight.
The victim told investigators that one bullet grazed his neck.
Miami Police Chief Manuel Morales confirmed that Brown was arrested in Dubai, transported to Newark, New Jersey, and is currently in custody there. Miami PD met him in Newark to proceed with extradition.
The Chief emphasized the commitment to justice, stating:
"Let this serve as a clear message; no matter who you are or where you run, we will pursue the facts, identify you, locate you, and bring you to justice."
The shooting incident occurred in Miami's Little Haiti neighborhood.
Brown is expected to be extradited to Miami soon to face the formal charges regarding the shooting.
