SALT LAKE CITY — Elder Gérald Caussé, originally from France and formerly the Presiding Bishop of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was called and ordained as the newest member of the Church’s Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on Thursday.
He was ordained by President Dallin H. Oaks along with members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. The Quorum is the Church's second-highest governing body. Its members act as special witnesses of Jesus Christ and oversee the Church’s global administration.
“I’ve always had a testimony of Jesus Christ,” Elder Caussé said on Thursday. “And I know He’s our Savior and Redeemer. What a wonderful thing it is to be a witness of Christ.”
Born in Bordeaux, France, in 1963, Elder Caussé moved to Paris when he was 19. He and his wife, Valérie Babin Caussé, are second-generation members of the Church. They married in the Bern Switzerland Temple in 1986 and have five children.
Throughout his ministry, Elder Caussé has been a strong advocate for caring for others and has emphasized the importance of youth in the Church.
