Elder Gérald Caussé Called as Newest Apostle

Elder Gérald Caussé became the first member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles from France and has served as the Church’s presiding bishop for the last decade. He was called to fill the vacancy left by the death of President Russell M. Nelson.

On Thursday, Nov., Elder Caussé, aged 62, was ordained by Oaks along with the other members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. At the time of his calling, he was serving as the Church’s presiding bishop.

A native of Bordeaux, France, Elder Caussé is the fourth Apostle currently serving who was born outside the United States. He and his wife, Valérie Caussé, have raised three children in several countries including France, Germany, and the United States.

“I’ve always had a testimony of Jesus Christ. He’s always been in the center of my life. And I know He’s our Savior and Redeemer. What a wonderful thing it is to be a witness of Christ. That’s the best responsibility or stewardship we might have in our lives.”

Elder Caussé recently addressed the annual Utah YSA conference in Salt Lake City and has consistently focused on youth and young adults throughout his leadership service.

Summary: Elder Gérald Caussé’s appointment marks a historic first for the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, reflecting his deep testimony and dedicated service to youth worldwide.
