South Florida faces off against UTSA in a key American Conference matchup. Despite recently dropping out of the Associated Press Top 25 after a tight loss to Memphis, the Bulls remain contenders for the conference championship.
The Bulls (6-2, 3-1 American) opened the season with momentum, earning two huge wins—one at home against Boise State and another in an upset over Florida. After a setback at Miami, South Florida rebounded with four consecutive victories, three within the conference. Their narrow 34-31 defeat to Memphis, where the Tigers rallied in the final two minutes, altered their trajectory but kept them in contention.
The Roadrunners (4-4, 2-2) have clawed their way back to an even record following a 22-point upset of Tulane. They started the year with losses to Texas A&M and Texas State but have since won four of their last six, including against Incarnate Word, Colorado State, and Rice. To reach the conference championship, UTSA must likely win out and receive help from other results. A bowl appearance, however, remains a feasible target.
