It’s Not Too Late to Get Your Flu Vaccination

Somerset Council reminds eligible residents to get their flu vaccination if they haven't done so yet. The best time for a flu shot is in autumn or early winter, before the virus spreads widely. This year, flu cases are already appearing.

Flu is more serious than a typical cold. It can lead to severe lung infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia, or worsen existing health conditions.

Councillor's Advice

Councillor Graham Oakes, Somerset Council’s Executive Member for Public Health, Climate Change and Environment, said: "Protecting yourself means protecting others. With flu already circulating, now is the perfect time for those who are eligible. It’s quick, safe and helps stop the spread to those most at risk."

Flu spreads easily and can cause hospitalization or even death. The flu virus frequently changes, so yearly vaccination is recommended.

Booking Your Vaccination

The NHS usually informs eligible residents when appointments can be booked. Those who haven’t been contacted but believe they qualify should consult their GP practice.

Author’s summary: Getting the flu vaccine in autumn is crucial to protect yourself and others from serious illness, especially as flu cases rise early this year.
