Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment Review

In Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, Zelda’s journey into the distant past of Hyrule delivers what feels like the strongest entry in the Warriors series. From the opening moments, the echoes of Tears of the Kingdom and the reinterpretation of Breath of the Wild’s history in Age of Calamity inevitably come to mind.

While Zelda games have at times seemed light on story, the series has steadily evolved. Recent titles showed ambition yet occasionally stumbled in execution. I appreciated the layered storytelling of Tears of the Kingdom and its look at a post-Breath of the Wild world, though it left me wishing for more in certain areas.

On paper, Age of Imprisonment appears to fill those narrative gaps—offering an emotional story that builds on familiar lore and finally realizes its full potential. The challenge lies in its execution, as it must balance narrative depth with the energetic pace expected from a Warriors title.

It’s all well and good then that it’s a sleeper hit for my personal game of the year.

Looking beyond the story, the game’s structure invites comparison to the long-running Dynasty Warriors series. Fans of that franchise will feel at home with its combination of large-scale battles and fast-paced combat, which carries the hallmark of Omega Force’s design style.

Final Thoughts

Age of Imprisonment fulfills the promise of blending epic narrative with frantic action, standing as one of the best Warriors experiences to date.

Author’s summary: A rich, fast-paced reimagining of Hyrule’s past that unites powerful storytelling and thrilling combat into the definitive Warriors experience.
