Maple Leafs Continue to Explore Trade Options for Robertson and Kampf

The Toronto Maple Leafs are actively examining trade options for forwards Nick Robertson and David Kampf, according to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger. Robertson has recently played on the team’s top line, while Kampf has spent the season with the Toronto Marlies in the AHL.

Player Performance and Ice Time

Robertson has recorded two goals and four points in ten games this season. His role has shifted significantly, ranging from the first line to being a healthy scratch. In Wednesday’s loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets, Robertson logged a season-high 17:22 of ice time, skating alongside Auston Matthews and Bobby McMann, as William Nylander missed the game due to injury.

Kampf, who was waived before the start of the season, has one assist in four AHL games. With a contract carrying a $2.4 million cap hit through next season, the 30-year-old forward currently counts $1.25 million against Toronto’s salary cap while in the AHL.

Trade Considerations

“We know that GM Brad Treliving continues to explore the idea of moving both David Kampf and Nick Robertson,” Dreger said Thursday on Insider Trading. “For Kampf in the AHL, it’s mostly about clearing salary. For Robertson, he’s a young player with potential—Toronto isn’t in a hurry to move him unless they get a suitable return.”

Dreger added that if the Maple Leafs were to trade Robertson, the return would likely involve a player of comparable age and potential, maintaining the team’s balance between youth and experience.

Author’s Summary

The Maple Leafs are balancing roster flexibility and cap management, assessing trade scenarios involving Robertson’s potential and Kampf’s salary relief.
