On November 7, several individuals at Joint Base Andrews became ill after opening a suspicious package sent to the Maryland military facility.
The package arrived at the base on Thursday. Following the discovery, the building and its connected structure were evacuated, and a security perimeter was established around the area.
"As a precaution, the building and connecting building were evacuated and a cordon was established around the area."
First responders from Joint Base Andrews quickly arrived at the scene. They found no immediate threats and handed the situation over to the Office of Special Investigations, which is currently conducting an investigation.
"Joint Base Andrews first responders were dispatched to the scene, determined there were no immediate threats and have turned the scene over to Office of Special Investigations. An investigation is currently ongoing."
Matt Ebarb, a spokesperson for the 316th Wing of the U.S. Air Force, confirmed that several people fell ill but were treated on-site.
"They were evaluated and treated by JBA medical personnel, determined to be in stable condition and released today."
Authorities have stated there are no current threats, and normal operations at Joint Base Andrews have resumed.
The suspicious package caused illness among multiple people, but prompt medical response ensured all were stable and the base has returned to normal function.
