Former NFL star Antonio Brown waived extradition before a judge on Friday as he prepares to return to Miami to face attempted murder charges. The charges stem from an incident this past spring where Brown allegedly opened fire at a crowded event.
Brown, 37, was extradited from Dubai by marshals and handed over to the Newark Port Authority, which placed him in Essex County Jail. After the hearing, he was returned to jail and will remain there until Florida authorities pick him up, though the timing of his transfer remains uncertain.
According to an arrest warrant describing the May 16 shooting, Brown is accused of seizing a handgun from a security staffer following a boxing match. He then fired two shots at a man with whom he had a prior fistfight.
"One of the bullets had grazed his neck," said the victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, during the investigation.
It remains unclear from court documents whether Brown has secured legal representation.
Brown has been active on social media from Dubai over recent months; however, the exact duration of his stay there is unknown.
Antonio Brown waived extradition in New Jersey and awaits transfer to Florida to face serious charges arising from a shooting incident at a boxing match.
