Dr Hilary Jones, a longtime contributor to ITV's Lorraine, recalled an amusing incident from his early days on the show when he accidentally went live after celebrating too enthusiastically.
“I’d run the New York Marathon and met up with two of my brothers to celebrate. Of course, I hadn’t eaten, hadn’t drunk water, and there was a lot of beer. I was scheduled to do a live segment from a remote studio in Times Square with Lorraine.”
The 72-year-old doctor said he struggled to set up the remote camera when suddenly the show went live.
“All I remember was giggling and talking nonsense because I was actually a bit drunk. Afterwards I thought, ‘They’re going to sack me. What did I say?’”
Fearing he might lose his position, he phoned the show's producers the next day to apologise. To his surprise, they reassured him that the segment had gone well.
“I phoned them and said, 'I’m really sorry,' and they said, ‘Why? You sounded brilliant—just happy and full of energy.’ So, I got away with it.”
Dr Hilary Jones humorously recounted appearing on Lorraine slightly tipsy after a marathon but was relieved when producers praised his cheerful energy instead of reprimanding him.
