A neighborhood in Brookmans Park, Hertfordshire, England, has collectively won the Millionaire Street prize in the People's Postcode Lottery. Their postal code, AL9 6PT, was drawn as the winner in the latest weekly draw.
The total prize of £1 million (approximately $1.3 million) was shared by seven residents of the village who had tickets through the lottery's monthly subscription. Each winner received £83,333 (around $109,000).
Samesh Kumari, a retired fashion business owner, claimed the biggest portion of the prize—£249,999 ($328,000). He held three tickets because he subscribed to the lottery in memory of his late mother, Chanchal Kumari, four months prior.
"I think mum would be really proud," Samesh told the lottery.
"I'm not sure I did, but she was right. I've only been playing for about four months. To have won so quickly is amazing. When I signed up, I was thinking about mum. This is extra special."
Erin Clack, a Staff Editor for PEOPLE with over 15 years of experience writing about fashion, parenting, and pop culture, provided coverage of the event.
The residents of Brookmans Park celebrated a $1.3 million lottery win, with one winner dedicating his share to his late mother, making the victory deeply meaningful.
