A playdate between two neighbors in a Lancaster neighborhood turned tragic on Monday night when a 9-year-old boy accidentally shot himself in the head at a home on Summitview Drive.
According to the Lancaster Police Department, the incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. while two children were in the basement of the home, where the young boy found the firearm.
"My grandson shot himself in the head," the boy's grandfather told dispatchers in a 911 call. "Please come."
In another 911 call, the boy's uncle urged dispatchers to hurry, saying "You got to hurry."
The boy passed away on Friday at 12:50 a.m., Lancaster police confirmed on Saturday, October 11.
