Edgar Wright expresses that he has “no regrets” about his decision to leave Marvel’s Ant-Man. In a recent interview on The Playlist’s Discourse Podcast about his upcoming film The Running Man, Wright shared his perspective on stepping away from superhero filmmaking, noting that he has not felt compelled to return to the genre.
“You’re not still losing sleep over that, are you?”
Wright joked when asked about leaving Marvel. He emphasized,
“I didn’t regret my decision to leave at all. I had started working on that film long before even ‘Iron Man’ came out. By the time it came around, they had established the brand, the continuity, and even a certain way of making a movie. So the chance to do something really different was going away.”
Since then, he has intentionally avoided superhero films.
Alongside his reflections, Wright revealed a never-realized idea for a Shaun of the Dead sequel that would have been an interactive experience, resembling a “choose your own adventure” format.
Edgar Wright embraces his past choices with curiosity, focusing on future projects that allow him creative freedom beyond the superhero genre.
