Before the matchup against the San Francisco 49ers, the Los Angeles Rams are making a switch at kicker. Rookie Harrison Mevis will be promoted from the practice squad to make his NFL debut, replacing Joshua Karty for the upcoming game, head coach Sean McVay confirmed Friday.
“There’s a lot of layers to it,” McVay said. “I still have a lot of confidence in Josh Karty. But based on some of the evaluations throughout the week, both players performed well. I’m proud of how Josh responded, and he has a bright future. Ultimately, it comes down to who gives us the best chance for success.”
Mevis, an undrafted rookie in 2024, previously excelled in the UFL, where he made 20 of 21 field goal attempts earlier this season. This weekend marks his first opportunity in an NFL game.
“It’s definitely a cool experience meeting new teammates and joining a great group,” Mevis said. “My focus is on doing my job and being the best version of myself. If I can help the team by making kicks, that’s exactly what I aim to do.”
The Rams will debut rookie kicker Harrison Mevis against the 49ers, while coach Sean McVay emphasizes confidence in both him and Joshua Karty despite the roster change.
