Under the orders of Punjab Food Authority (PFA) Director General Asim Javed, food safety teams conducted an inspection of snack manufacturing factories near Liaquat Chowk. The operation revealed significant hygiene violations.
Officials discovered a factory producing unsafe Nimco and snacks targeted at children using substandard ingredients. The production involved reused, contaminated oil, banned artificial colors, and unlabeled open spices.
The authorities promptly sealed the factory and disposed of nearly two maunds (approximately 80 kg) of unhealthy oil alongside illegal food colors and raw materials.
The factory's working conditions were extremely unhygienic, featuring dirty walls, broken floors, and a foul smell permeating the production area.
Inspectors also noted a heavy presence of rats, lizards, and flies around the facility.
“This operation is part of the province-wide effort to ensure safe and hygienic food products, especially those for children,” said DG Food Authority Asim Javed. “Strict action will continue against food businesses violating health and safety standards.”
Summary: Punjab Food Authority shut down a snack factory near Liaquat Chowk for using hazardous ingredients and maintaining unhygienic conditions, emphasizing ongoing strict enforcement for food safety.
