Borussia Dortmund manager Niko Kovac has responded to speculation linking midfielder Jobe Bellingham with a potential move to Manchester United during the January transfer window.
United’s main priority in January remains strengthening their midfield. Casemiro continues as Bruno Fernandes’ defensive partner and has shown improved form this season, though he has yet to complete a full 90 minutes. New recruit Manuel Ugarte, brought in as Casemiro’s eventual successor, has struggled and could be allowed to leave in winter.
Reports also suggest manager Ruben Amorim is not convinced by Kobbie Mainoo, whose future at the club looks uncertain. United are also keeping tabs on several young talents, including Carlos Baleba from Brighton, Adam Wharton, and Elliot Anderson. However, transfer fees for all three are expected to be high, which could limit United’s options under INEOS’s current financial stance.
Among the more affordable alternatives is Jobe Bellingham of Borussia Dortmund. The English midfielder, once a United target during his Sunderland days, chose to follow his brother’s path to the Bundesliga instead. His adaptation at Dortmund has been challenging, with the 20-year-old earning only two starts under Kovac so far.
“He is not satisfied with the lack of playing time, given his ambition to make the England squad for the World Cup,” Kovac acknowledged.
Bellingham’s limited minutes could open the door to a potential exit in January, should interest from Manchester United become concrete.
Manchester United are monitoring Jobe Bellingham as an affordable midfield option, while Niko Kovac admits the player’s frustration over minimal game time at Dortmund.
