The creative agency Dawn, together with 100%’s Another Duo (formerly Lernert & Sander), launched a unique campaign for Vattenfall — the Vattenfall Chamber Orchestra. This installation turns daily energy use into a tangible sound experience, symbolizing society’s uneven electricity consumption.
The orchestra consists of 24 common household devices — from coffee makers to hedge trimmers — each producing its own tone. Through this setup, Vattenfall demonstrates how synchronized electricity use causes grid overloads, wastes renewable energy, and raises costs.
“Most households use electricity at the same time — creating peaks that overload the grid, waste renewable energy and drive up prices.”
Vattenfall’s initiative motivates customers to shift power use to off-peak hours via a new energy contract and communication campaign. This shift reduces stress on the grid and helps lower household energy expenses.
“By literally turning the imbalance into sound, we make people aware of their energy habits without pointing fingers.”
Presented as a modern chamber symphony, each appliance performs two sequences: one soft, symbolizing thoughtful off-peak usage, and one loud, reflecting collective peak demand. Depending on the time of day, listeners experience either harmony or chaos.
The project appears across various formats — online video, digital out-of-home media, radio, interactive games, TikTok, and social platforms — blending music, art, and public awareness.
Author’s Summary: A creative installation turns home appliances into a musical metaphor for energy imbalance, urging people to adjust their electricity use for a more sustainable rhythm.
