The second episode of Welcome to Derry delves into the devastating aftermath of the cinema massacre and continues to explore how It haunts the town’s children. Set 27 years before the events of Andy Muschietti’s It films, the prequel expands the mythology of Derry with numerous Easter eggs referencing Stephen King’s other works.
Following the first episode’s shocking conclusion, Lily (Clara Stack) and Ronnie (Amanda Christine) struggle as Ronnie’s father is wrongfully accused of the murders. At the same time, Major Hanlon’s wife and son move to Derry, only to face the town’s deep-seated racism. Hanlon’s son, Will (Blake Cameron), befriends Rich (Arian S. Cartaya), while both Lily and Ronnie have terrifying encounters with It.
Unlike the first episode, episode 2 opens with a credits sequence set to the 1956 song "A Smile and a Ribbon" by Patience and Prudence. The cheerful tone quickly turns eerie, visually revealing the darkness beneath Derry’s seemingly idyllic surface.
“Welcome to Derry’s opening sequence begins joyfully but slowly exposes the sinister reality of this cursed town.”
Author’s Summary: Episode 2 deepens the horror and lore of Derry, blending personal tragedy with haunting nods to Stephen King’s vast fictional universe.
