I was drawn to Netflix’s «The Asset (Legenden)» because it was trending in the platform’s top ten as the most-watched non-English show of the week, and it was promoted as a scandi noir. As a fan of good scandi noir, I expected more, but the series only fits the genre in setting, being a crime drama based in Scandinavia. However, calling it a proper scandi noir feels like a stretch.
This crime drama starts with promise, as if a huge twist is imminent, but that never materializes. «The Asset» stays straightforward and generic throughout. If you’ve seen shows where a police officer infiltrates a crime syndicate by befriending the criminal’s partner, nothing here will surprise you.
It’s the kind of story where watching just the first and last episodes is enough to imagine the rest. So if you’re asking, “Does this ever get better?” the answer is a firm no.
A police cadet, Tea (Clara Dessau), is tasked with infiltrating a criminal empire run by Miran (Afshin Firouzi) by befriending his wife, Ashley (Maria Cordsen).
Author’s summary: The show promises depth as a Scandinavian crime thriller but delivers a predictable and bland plot with no meaningful surprises or twists.
