Wicked: For Good introduces two original songs alongside the tracks from the Broadway musical’s second act, delving deeper into Elphaba and Glinda’s stories.
The movie’s second part, adapted from the latter half of the Broadway show, ends with Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) performing “Defying Gravity” after discovering with Glinda (Ariana Grande) that the Wizard (Jeff Goldblum) is a fraud.
Director Jon M. Chu shared that the story expands with two new songs written by Stephen Schwartz, the original Broadway composer:
“Both witches are trying to find their way home,” Chu told Entertainment Weekly in September 2025. “Both of these songs are about how to do that, and it’s questions that I’ve always wanted to hear from them in the stage show, but never got to. We get to take our time and explore those questions.”
Fans enjoyed an early look at these songs during the Wicked: One Wonderful Night special on NBC, ahead of the musical’s November 2025 premiere.
Author's note: These new additions deepen the emotional journeys of Elphaba and Glinda, enriching the beloved Wicked narrative with fresh musical perspectives.
