The Pitt men’s basketball team opened the 2025–26 season with a strong performance, defeating Youngstown State 74–59 on Monday night at the Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh. This victory marked the Panthers’ fourth consecutive season-opening win.
Youngstown State controlled the early moments of the game, maintaining a narrow lead. Pitt took its first advantage at 20–19 after a three-point play by Cameron Corhen. The Penguins briefly responded with a 6–0 run, but the Panthers' defensive pressure soon changed the flow.
Over the final 5:34 of the first half, Youngstown State managed only one field goal in seven attempts and committed three turnovers. Pitt capitalized with a decisive 14–3 surge to head into halftime up 34–28.
