Ken Jennings, the host of the television quiz show 'Jeopardy,' has issued an apology following criticism over a recent clue that described an online meme character as "AI generated."
"I hope you'll forgive me and all of us at 'Jeopardy' for any insult," Jennings said.
The incident began when a question from the category "Daddy, is there really a…" featured a clue stating that an AI generated an image of "this pig/human eventually killed by Tim Cheese." Contestants Cindy del Rosario, Sondra Venable, and Dargan Ware appeared uncertain about the answer.
Jennings added humor to the situation, commenting:
"I didn't understand any of that,"
before revealing the answer:
"Who is John Pork?"
John Pork is a fictional online character known for his pig's head attached to a human body. His comical social media posts on Instagram and TikTok have attracted attention for their contrast between his absurd look and mundane, cheerful captions.
Once a clip of the episode circulated on TikTok, viewers debated whether it was accurate to label John Pork as "AI generated." Many pointed out that images of the character appeared online as early as 2018 — predating the widespread use of generative AI tools.
In meme lore, John Pork was humorously said to have been "assassinated" by a rat character named Tim Cheese, a reference that added another layer of internet absurdity to the debate.
Following the backlash, Jennings took responsibility for any misunderstanding caused by the wording of the clue and reassured fans that no harm was intended.
Ken Jennings apologized after a 'Jeopardy' clue misidentified meme character John Pork as AI-generated, sparking online debate about the fictional pig-human’s true origin.
