Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Alex Vesia and his wife Kayla have announced the heartbreaking death of their baby daughter, Sterling Sol Vesia. The couple shared the news Friday through a joint Instagram post.
The 29-year-old relief pitcher was not included in the Dodgers' World Series roster, as he was on a leave of absence for personal reasons. The post revealed that their daughter passed away on Sunday, October 26.
“Our little angel, we love you forever and you’re with us always,”
“Our beautiful daughter went to heaven Sunday, October 26. There are no words to describe the pain we’re going through, but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every moment we had with her.”
The couple also expressed gratitude to the Dodgers organization for their compassion and to everyone across the baseball community for their support and comforting messages.
“Thank you to the Dodgers for their understanding and support during this time. Our baseball family showed up for us and we wouldn’t be able to do this without them. Thank you Dodger Nation, Blue Jays organization, and all baseball fans for your love and support. We have seen all your messages, comments, and posts. It’s brought us so much comfort.”
They extended a special thank-you to the staff at Cedars-Sinai who cared for Kayla and Sterling.
“Every person we came across was truly so incredible.”
The cause of death was not mentioned. Earlier this year, in April, the couple had announced that they were expecting a baby.
