Claire Elise Boucher, known as Grimes, musician and former partner of Elon Musk, expressed strong concerns about AI's impact on children via social media. She described the biggest threat as “outsourcing thinking,” hinting at the risks posed by artificial intelligence technology.
Grimes warned about the dangers of exposing children to AI, paralleling it with harmful influences like smoking and fast food. She said to Doomscroll's Joshua Citarella:
“I'm tired of experimenting on kids you know, smoking, MacDonalds and now we're gonna do it with this?”
Though apprehensive, Grimes also showed cautious optimism about AI’s future, stating:
“In some ways I can't wait for superintelligence - in some ways I can't wait. It's not as easy since I've had kids.”
Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and owner of the social media platform X, has embedded various AI technologies into the site. In February, he introduced Grok 3, which he described as “the smartest AI on Earth.” Musk's AI tools include text and image-based features accessible to anyone aged 13 and older, with no current age verification on the platform.
Grimes referenced studies suggesting AI use can “atrophy the brain,” highlighting her worries about its influence on young minds.
Grimes criticizes AI’s growing presence and risks for children on Musk’s platform while cautiously anticipating its future potential despite her concerns.
