Dave Franco recently commented on his brother James Franco while rejecting claims that his own success is linked purely to nepotism. In his interview with Bustle, the actor explained that although his brother’s fame opened some initial opportunities, his career ultimately depended on his own abilities.
“No one was going to hire me just because I was James Franco’s little brother.”
Franco stated that he understood the advantage that came from his brother’s name but maintained that talent and hard work sustained his career. Reflecting on his progress, he added that James feels proud to watch him take creative risks and evolve as an artist.
“If I sucked, I would’ve disappeared very quickly.”
“At this point, I think he’s excited just to see me trying new things and to see me grow.”
Dave Franco began his acting career with a role in the WB drama 7th Heaven. He later became known for his appearances in films such as Superbad, Fright Night, 21 Jump Street, and Now You See Me. His brother James followed a similar path, first gaining fame on the TV series Freaks and Geeks before starring in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man.
In 2019, James Franco faced a lawsuit accusing him of inappropriate and sexually charged behavior toward female students. The case was later settled for over $2 million. Dave, meanwhile, encountered plagiarism allegations connected to his film Together, co-starring his wife, Alison Brie, and directed by Michael Shanks.
Dave Franco defended his career independence, admitting family influence but stressing that lasting success came through his own persistence and skill.
