Peloton is recalling nearly 833,000 stationary bikes following reports of injuries linked to a defect in the seat post assembly. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission confirmed the recall on Thursday, highlighting a potential risk of falls or injuries for riders.
The issue affects Peloton Original Series Bike+ units with model number PL02 and serial numbers beginning with the letter “T.” These bikes were produced between December 2019 and July 2022 and sold in the United States.
According to Peloton, “the seat post assembly on certain Peloton Original Series Bike+ models can break during use, posing a potential fall and injury risk to consumers.”
The company reported three incidents of the seat post breaking during workouts, including two cases of injury. Approximately 833,000 units were sold in the U.S., while none of the 44,800 units distributed in Canada have shown any defects.
The recalled bikes, priced around $2,495, were available for purchase from January 2020 through April 2025 across national retailers such as Dick’s Sporting Goods, Peloton’s official website, Amazon, and eBay.
Peloton has urged all users to stop using the affected bikes immediately and to request a complimentary replacement seat post, which customers can install themselves.
Peloton stated that users should “cease using the recalled bikes immediately” and contact the company for a free replacement part.
