Blackmagic has updated its free Camera app for Android and iOS with new features aimed at streamers and professional broadcasters. The app now allows live streaming directly to YouTube, Twitch, and Vimeo without the need for additional software or encoding hardware.
Users simply select their streaming platform and enter a secure stream key. During broadcasts, the app retains control functionality, allowing adjustments to exposure, focus, and other settings in real-time.
The update introduces support for SRT, a modern streaming protocol favored by professionals. SRT is designed to work well over networks with variable speed and reliability, such as the internet.
Blackmagic Camera also now supports custom RTMP and SRT servers, offering streamers more flexibility beyond the default platforms.
The app includes enhanced alerts for when external drives disconnect unexpectedly. This feature helps prevent data loss, which is particularly important when working with high-resolution, high-frame-rate Apple ProRes files that the iPhone cannot record internally.
"Both the Android and iOS versions of the Blackmagic Camera app can now stream directly to YouTube, Twitch, and Vimeo, removing the need for third-party apps or additional encoding hardware."
"The update also adds support for SRT: a more modern streaming protocol frequently used by professional broadcasters that’s optimized for networks whose speeds and reliability are less consistent."
Summary: Blackmagic’s Camera app update simplifies live streaming by supporting direct broadcasting to major platforms, modern protocols like SRT, and safeguards data integrity during high-quality recording.
