Nikita Zadorov kept the banter going with Islanders fans even after leaving the ice at UBS Arena. The Bruins defenseman responded on social media to fans who slid into his Instagram DMs following his confrontation with rookie Matthew Schaefer during the Islanders’ 4-3 shootout loss.
Zadorov posted a screenshot of the DMs he received, where fans called him derogatory names. He replied:
“Get out of my DMs and go to the rink to cheer for your team. THAT PLACE WAS A [LIBRARY] TONIGHT!!!”
The altercation occurred in the second period when Zadorov shoved Schaefer with his stick, knocking the rookie to the ice. As Schaefer tried to get up, Zadorov pushed him down again. This led to Anthony Duclair and Islanders captain Anders Lee rushing in to defend Schaefer, with other Islanders players joining the fray.
Zadorov was given a double minor penalty for roughing and two minutes for interference.
After the game, Zadorov joked about the penalty minutes he had accumulated last season and suggested he wanted to increase them. He also mocked the crowd noise, implying it was very quiet during the game.
