Roar Striker Intent on Showing ‘Quality’ Against Former Club

Brisbane striker Justin Vidic insists he does not have anything to prove to his former club Newcastle ahead of their game on Sunday, but is determined to demonstrate his “quality” after being released by the Jets last season.

Vidic was let go by Newcastle after scoring only one goal in 13 A-League matches, mostly coming off the bench. During his two years with the Jets, he made 13 appearances but only started once. When Mark Milligan replaced Robbie Stanton as coach, the 21-year-old was not offered a new contract.

Facing uncertainty in his professional career, Vidic seized the opportunity to trial with Brisbane Roar. His performance earned him a two-year contract with the Roar, where his hardworking, traditional style fits well with coach Michael Valkanis’ straightforward and physical tactical approach.

“These things happen for a reason,” Vidic said before the Roar-Jets match at Sunshine Coast Stadium. “I’m sure I’ll show my quality. I don’t think I have anything to prove to them. They know what I’m capable of, and there are lots of people at the club that I still speak to and that I’m still close to. They know my potential and I want to show them that on Sunday.”

Vidic has started two of Brisbane’s three matches this season and scored his first A-League goal for the Roar during their 2-1 loss to Wellington last month.

“Starting in our past two games has been good for me.”

Summary

Justin Vidic aims to prove his capabilities with Brisbane Roar after a challenging stint at Newcastle, embracing his role in a team that suits his style and showcasing his potential on the field.
