Sigourney Weaver, known for her roles in Alien, Avatar, and Ghostbusters, is set to join the Star Wars universe in the 2026 release The Mandalorian and Grogu. Despite her established presence in three major franchises, Weaver didn’t expect to become part of a fourth.
“It was not my intention to find a fourth franchise. I didn’t ever imagine that I would enter the Star Wars world.”
In a recent interview with Empire, Weaver shared what drew her to this new venture. She emphasized the importance of the script, explaining that Star Wars is no longer aiming to be the ultimate franchise but is evolving to tell a variety of engaging stories within its universe.
“What’s interesting about Star Wars now is they’re no longer trying to do the Star Wars to end all Star Wars. They’re letting the universe exist, and tell really interesting stories within that.”
This perspective marks a hopeful shift for a franchise that has struggled to regain its footing after mixed reactions to recent films, such as Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi.
Weaver’s optimistic view highlights a promising new chapter for Star Wars, embracing creative freedom rather than franchise constraints.
