Mike Smith, widely recognized as Bubbles from the Canadian series Trailer Park Boys, has been formally charged with sexual assault in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The charge relates to an alleged incident from 2017.
According to court documents, Smith is prohibited from contacting the alleged victim or coming near their residence, workplace, or school. Following the charges, Trailer Park Boys Inc. confirmed that Smith has resigned from his role as managing director.
"We are aware of the allegation concerning Mike Smith dating back to 2017 and take such matters seriously. We recognize how difficult an allegation of this nature is for all involved. Out of respect for the legal process, we will not comment further on the case."
At 52 years old, Smith earned fame portraying Bubbles, the quirky, glasses-wearing character loved by fans. He appeared in 116 episodes of the mockumentary-style comedy, which aired initially from 2001 to 2007 before returning for additional seasons and specials.
This sexual assault charge is not the first legal issue Smith has encountered.
