Classes at Franklin & Marshall College were canceled on Monday following a widespread power outage caused by a transformer malfunction over the weekend.
A transformer on Harrisburg Pike broke down early Saturday morning, leading to scattered outages across the campus and nearby neighborhoods, according to a college spokesperson.
Peter Durantine, Franklin & Marshall’s director of media relations, explained that repair crews initially aimed to restore power by Sunday evening. However, the process took longer than expected, resulting in cancellations of classes and campus events on Monday.
“We apologize for the continued disruption and the inconvenience this has caused,” Durantine said in a Sunday evening statement. “Please know that our teams are working around the clock, along with PPL Electric, to complete repairs and restore normal operations as soon as possible.”
Efforts to restore power were expected to continue into Monday.
Faculty and staff were instructed not to come to campus on Monday and to work remotely if possible.
