Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged increased Western pressure on the Kremlin as the death toll rose from recent Russian strikes. Authorities faced challenges restoring power after widespread attacks targeted Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
On November 9, Kyiv and numerous regions experienced significant power cuts, with outages lasting between eight and sixteen hours, according to state energy provider Ukrenergo. Energy consumption restrictions were planned for November 10 as well.
"The reason for the introduction of restrictions is the consequences of massive Russian missile and drone attacks on energy facilities," the company stated.
Ukrenergo spokeswoman Svitlana Hrynchuk noted the unprecedented scale of the attacks:
"It is difficult to recall such a [large] number of direct strikes on energy facilities since the beginning of the invasion."
In his nightly video address, President Zelenskyy emphasized that repair crews were working almost around the clock across most regions.
"Restoration efforts are ongoing, and although the situation is difficult, thousands of people are involved in stabilizing the system and repairing the damage."
Even before the cold season, Russia had intensified attacks on Ukraine’s power grid, gas facilities, and pipelines, aiming to freeze and demoralize the population.
Russian missile and drone attacks have caused widespread power outages in Ukraine, with repair crews working tirelessly amid ongoing pressure to restore energy stability.
