J.J. Watt appreciates opposing fans being kind about him calling his brother's games

J.J. Watt on Calling His Brother's Games

J.J. Watt has spent much of his first season as CBS’s No. 2 analyst alongside Ian Eagle calling Steelers games, where his younger brother T.J. Watt plays a key role. He shared how he manages the challenge of balancing professionalism with family ties during broadcasts.

Professionalism and Fan Reactions

Watt explained to The Dan Patrick Show that calling his brother's games is not as difficult as many assume. He maintains a professional approach and still communicates with his brother before games.

“Honestly, it’s not nearly as bad as I think people think it would be. You’re up there, and I know how to be professional. I talk to him before the game. But, during the game, Ian handles the play-by-play anyway, so I have like a 3 or 4 second where he makes a strip-sack fumble, where Ian is doing his job really well, and then I break down the play. From the fan reaction, I’m very appreciative of all the opposing fans who have been so kind because I have consciously tried to keep it extremely unbiased.”

Game Highlights and Broadcast Dynamics

During a recent Steelers-Colts game, J.J. Watt forced a strip-sack fumble in the second quarter that he recovered, contributing to Pittsburgh’s defense forcing six turnovers in their 27-20 victory, which ended a two-game losing streak.

Ian Eagle handled the live play-by-play, while J.J. provided analysis on the play, maintaining a smooth broadcast without controversy.

J.J. Watt values the kindness of opposing fans and successfully balances his role as a professional analyst with the personal connection to his brother on the field.
