Kerala school on two-day shutdown following row over student’s hijab

Kerala School Shut Down Over Hijab Controversy

A CBSE-affiliated school in Kerala's Ernakulam district has been at the center of a controversy after a student was denied entry for wearing a hijab.

The issue began when a class 8 student wore a hijab to school on October 7, after reportedly following the prescribed uniform for four months.

The situation escalated into heated confrontations between the student's parents and the school management, leading the parent-teacher association (PTA) to declare a two-day holiday on October 13 and 14 to prevent further unrest.

The Kerala High Court granted police protection to the school on Monday, October 13, following a plea by the school management.

No official statement from the school management has been released regarding the incident.
