Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes is giving House Speaker Mike Johnson an ultimatum: schedule Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva's swearing-in ceremony within two days or face a lawsuit.
Rep.-elect Grijalva, who was elected to represent Arizona's 7th Congressional District, has yet to be sworn in three weeks after her election. Mayes has sent a letter to Johnson's office, threatening litigation if the oath of office ceremony is not scheduled by Thursday, before the end of the federal government shutdown.
Mayes announced that she was sending the letter during the official canvas of the Sept. 23 special election results.
This move comes as a procedural step in the election process, which also involved Arizona Gov.
