A big weekend for the Yellowknife Salvation Army saw many hungry Yellowknifers indulge in Thanksgiving dinner, thanks to the organization's efforts and numerous donors.

Approximately 250 people attended a traditional turkey meal.

"We served them restaurant style - having them take a seat and we had somebody come take their order and deliver everything to the table for them. Everybody seemed to appreciate the service and the food,"
said Tony Brushett, executive director of the Yellowknife Salvation Army.

On Saturday, the organization sold all 600 of its hampers, raising close to $20,000 for groceries to support the food bank over the next couple of months, according to Brushett. Another $1,000 came in through donations, which will go toward food security programs.

"It was a busy weekend, but a very successful weekend,"
he said.
