Bob Ross paintings to hit auction block as fundraiser for APT’s Create

Bob Ross Paintings to be Auctioned for APT's Create

Thirty original Bob Ross paintings will be sold to offset station licensing fees for American Public Television's Create multicast channel.

The auction, which will be held by Bonhams over the next three years, aims to alleviate the financial burden of licensing fees on stations. The paintings were created by Ross on his series The Joy of Painting.

My head started ticking away, like, 'Well, this many paintings would equal this much, and this many paintings would equal this much,'

Joan Kowalski, president of Bob Ross Inc., conceived the idea for the sale after two privately held Ross paintings were sold by Bonhams for around $100,000 each in August.

The sale is expected to generate significant funds, with the proceeds going towards offsetting licensing fees for APT's Create channel.

Author's summary: Bob Ross paintings are being auctioned to support APT's Create channel.
