Virginia's candidates for governor on guns, trans issues and campaign enthusiasm

Virginia's Gubernatorial Candidates on Key Issues

With Virginia's election less than three weeks away, the candidates for governor are weighing in on crucial topics such as gun control and trans issues. Republican Lt. Governor Winsome Earle-Sears, one of the candidates, met at Dominion Shooting Range in Richmond to discuss her stance on firearms.

“Gimme the small Glock over here, number 44-yellow,”

Earle-Sears said, as she prepared to shoot. The range owner, Jerry Thompson, replied, “Okay, so that’s gonna be .22 caliber, is that okay?” Earle-Sears responded with a quip,

“We have a saying in Jamaica, it’s not the size of the gun, but the bullet.”

Earle-Sears shared that her first experience with shooting was during her time in the military. The interviews conducted for this story reveal that issues like gun control and trans rights are interconnected and impact people across the commonwealth.
