Out of the Darkness Walk Raises Money for Suicide Prevention

The Suffolk News-Herald reports on the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) Out of the Darkness Walk.

Angela Agar first participated in the walk after her cousin's death. She and her sister walked in Virginia Beach for two years before finding the Suffolk event. Now, as the planning committee co-chair for the fourth year, Agar says taking the position has been one of her greatest decisions.

The Suffolk Out of the Darkness Walk will take place in October. Currently, there are 154 registered participants forming 39 teams. The overall goal is to raise $40,000, with just over $9,000 raised so far.

"This has been a financially tough year with all that's going on in the world,"

Agar said, citing the loss of grant money that normally sponsors such events.
